This is my recording of Jeremy Beck’s Nocturne No. 1, from his suite Six Nocturnes (2000). This piece is everything a nocturne is supposed to be: tender, evocative of night and bittersweet. There is a quiet tension and longing in this nocturne that doesn’t quite resolve, but finds release in the beautiful flourish that concludes the piece — lifting and dissolving like the mist with the sunrise.
