Just for a change of pace, I thought I would share one of my influences and post this short prelude I recorded by Maurice Ravel (1875-1937), even though my wife and son mocked me (justifiably) for the self serious video. I enjoy the mood this piece creates, but I’m hardpressed to describe it. It’s got elegance and a jazz-type coolness to it, compressed into a sliver of time that dissipates like smoke. Take a listen:
